A ONE ACT PLAY BY EDWARD STONE

LAODS has always been known for its spectacular summer musicals, with fabulous costumes, staging and superb vocal presentation. In the past few years, we have been exploring more of the ‘D’ in LAODS – the Drama. Phil Healing and Kindall Goble, who are both on our committee, are dedicated to mounting at least one one-act play every year. They have directed three so far; ‘The Goddess Of Walnuts’; ‘Way Back’ and ‘Everyman’, which was presented and extremely well received this past March. Phil and Kindall go to the Edinburgh Fringe festival every year. They usually try to see seven shows per day during their visit, searching for a suitable piece to use for our small space at The Green Room Club.

The three previous plays have been increasingly well received; mounting a one-act play also attracts new members, and makes the general public more aware and appreciative of what LAODS does.

Outside, is a brilliantly written, funny and engaging piece by Edward Stone, about a young couple and the guy's best friend. It is set in the near future where anarchy and lawlessness has been dealt with by using a curfew. The story tells of the tumult of the relationship amongst the three whilst they get increasingly restless; it is the night of the lifting of the curfew. The style is very cool in the way the characters conversation ever-so-slightly overlaps each other. It gives a wonderful sense of energy and up-to-the-minute feel.

Performances at The Green Room Club, Tentercroft Street, Lincoln.
