ABOUT LINCOLN AMATEUR OPERATIC AND DRAMATIC SOCIETY
MUSICAL THEATRE MADE IN LINCOLN

LAODS' Story begins in October 1900 when a group of local people interested in amateur theatre formed the Lincoln Amateur Operatic Society and chose for their first show the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, The Yeomen of the Guard.

For more than 100 years LAODS produced at least one show each year, reflecting contemporary tastes. From musical comedies such as Rose Marie and Show Boat in the 1930s, Rogers and Hammerstein shows of the 1950s and 1960s, to award-winning musicals such as Cabaret, 42nd Street and La Cage aux Folles in the 1990s. Recent hits such as The Producers, Oliver! and the record-breaking Full Monty in 2008 maintained the spirit of those early days with talented and enthusiastic casts performing to appreciative audiences.

More recently the challenge of staging musical theatre on a limited budget required a change in approach. 2013 was the first year in many when LAODS did not present a full musical. Instead we produced a series of fund raising concerts and entertainments, the first being Musical Magic at LPAC. More followed including Swinging Yuletide, a Christmas concert, and a play, The Goddess of Walnuts. All were met with great success.

The efforts of the society were not in vain, LAODS has now worked itself into a position to stage full musicals once more starting with Anything Goes in 2014, Guys And Dolls in 2015, and in 2016 , Spamalot! All at Lincoln Performing Arts Centre.
We hope to see you at our 2017 presentation of The Wizard of Oz.
